About Montana Redonda
The Montana Redonda is located in the province of El Seibo and the nearest major city is Miches. Witch Mountain is approximately 330 meters high. Due to the ideal location, there is a wonderful view of the mountains and the ocean from the top.
How to get to Montana Redonda?
The place is 1 hour by car from Bávaro. The route to this attraction is very easy and in good condition. From time to time there are policemen on the route checking speed. On this route, I recommend observing the speed limit and installing the Waze application on your phone before traveling, which will make navigation easier.
How to get to the top of Witch Mountain?
If you get there, you will immediately be approached by tour sellers who will want to offer you a ride up the mountain in a safari truck.
You can easily get to the top of the mountain with your own car – if you have a 4X4 drive. I took my car up the mountain a few times and it was fantastic fun. If there has been heavy rain prior to your visit, entry may be much more difficult or impossible. The weather was favorable each time and the road to the top was in good condition.
Fans of two wheels, both motocross bikes and bicycles, can try their hand at riding a two-wheeler up the mountain.
If you like walking and hiking, you can climb the mountain on your own, on your feet. The route to the top will take you about an hour one way.
The last option is to use a safari truck. The ride to the top and back should cost around 10 USD.
How much does a ticket to Montana Redonda cost?
You must buy a ticket to the Montana Redonda at the booth near the entrance to the mountain road.
A ticket for non-residents of the country costs 7USD or 450DOP. After purchasing, you will receive a reusable ticket that you will have to hand over to the staff at the top of the mountain. From experience – you don’t have to look for a person, because practically always someone comes to a newly parked car (or a new trip) and collects the tickets.
Attraction opening hours
The Montana Redonda is open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you plan to go to the peak on your own or go for a walk, be sure to arrive earlier to have enough time to return.
Organized trips through the tourist office
If you don’t want to organize a trip to Montana Redonda yourself, you can take advantage of the offers of tourist agencies. The price of a trip organized by the office starts from 60 USD. Organized tours often include a meal at a restaurant on Witch Mountain.
What attractions are on Witch Mountain?
In addition to the beautiful views, there are several fun activities for visitors on Montana Redonda.
Swings
Swings are probably the most important attraction of Montana Redonda. At the top there are several swings where you can swing and admire the wonderful views. You also have to take a photo on the swings! The most fun is swinging over the slope, you can really feel like a bird in flight. If you are afraid of heights, swinging over a slope may not be a good idea.
Broom
On Montana Redonda you can also take the famous photo with a broom. Now you maybe think why brooms – the legend says that this place was visited by witches. After all, the other name is Witch Mountain (this name works e.g. in Poland), so the brooms are important there 😉 You can choose your broom and then choose the place where you want to take a photo. Most people choose the ocean as a background. I think that the witch “in flight” looks best against the background of water and sky.
Observation tower
Recently, there is also an observation tower on Witch Mountain, from which you can admire the views – the mountains on one side and the Atlantic on the other. I won’t deny that the views made a huge impression on me every time.
Zipline
There is also a zipline on Montana Redonda that you can take a ride on. The views will definitely be fabulous. If you want to use the zipline, you must pay an additional fee before the ride.
Souvenir shops
At the top of the mountain you will also find several souvenir shops. If you are curious about how much souvenirs cost in the Dominican Republic, be sure to read the entry about the souvenirs to know the prices.
Restaurant
If you get hungry during the trip or want to drink something with beautiful views, there is a restaurant on Montana Redonda. The menu consists of classics of Dominican cuisine. Interestingly, the prices in the restaurant are not excessive, so it is worth sitting there and drinking a beer or something to eat while enjoying the beautiful views.
Glamping on Montana Redonda
You can also sleep in a tent at the top of the mountain! This is definitely an interesting attraction, because the most important thing about spending the night on the top is waking up for the sunrise! If you plan to spend the night in a tent on Witch Mountain, take sweatshirts and long pants with you, because the temperature at the top is lower than at sea level. It can get really cold at night.
The price for an overnight stay on Montana Redonda is approximately USD 100.
Is it worth seeing Montana Redonda?
As I mentioned above, I think this is one of the most interesting attractions that can be seen a short distance from Punta Cana. It is definitely a variety, something different from the beautiful white beaches of this region. A huge advantage is definitely the fact that this attraction can be completed 100% without any intermediaries.
If you go to Montana Redonda, it is also worth considering visiting nearby beaches, e.g. Playa Limon, Esmeralda or Macao. You can read about the beaches in this region of the Dominican Republic in a separate entry.
