Do not worry about the weather in Dominicana!
The weather in Dominicana is a topic that would significantly interest you. You can find many posts on Facebook groups and forums daily, that are filled with worries about rain during holidays. Many of you take Internet weather forecasts seriously.
Rain? Nothing wrong with it!
You need to know that Dominicana is characterized by changing weather. The rain falls are nothing extraordinary here, many of which are quite heavy and appear mainly during the night. Even if the rain happens during the day, it should not spoil your vacation. The fall itself usually lasts for a few minutes, and the rain is warm and pleasant.
The wet season in Dominicana
The rainy season in Dominicana lasts between April and November. It can rain more heavily during this period. The showers can be quite heavy, but the water evaporates quickly.
Hurricanes in Dominicana
The period between June and November is known as a Hurricane Season. The ‘critical time’, which happens when the most factors contribute to hurricane creation, falls on the second week of August until the first week of October. The temperatures are also the highest during this period. The dust from the Sahara makes hurricane creation difficult and it appears in Dominicana very often during summer time.
The Fiona hurricane hit Dominicana during my stay in Las Terrenas and it was a first category hurricane. The residents in Dominicana prepared for it a few days prior. There were lots of queues in the stores. The local government prepared shelters for people whose houses were not safe enough to survive the hit. Fiona, even though it received a first category, left much harm – broken trees, destroyed houses and roads, and torn power lines. Many people were with no access to water and electricity for at least a few days.
