Scuba diving in Trinidad and Tobago
How much is scuba diving in Trinidad and Tobago? Is it worth to dive in Tobago? What is the best place to dive in Tobago?
The last attraction during my trip to Tobago was diving among the coral reef. This island is famous for its coral reef, which is in the waters surrounding the island. The places offering diving are, for example, Crown Point, Pigeon Point Beach and Buccoo village. I found out that the best diving in the coral reef is located in Speyside city, which is located in the north part of Tobago. The host of the apartment in Trinidad also recommended this place to go diving in Trinidad.

About Speyside
Speyside city is located in the north part of Tobago, and it takes around an hour drive from Scarborough. Most of the road is in good condition, however there are a few dangerous sections of it, where it leads right next to a slope and is quite narrow.
The village is inhabited by around 1000 citizens. It is known mostly for its beautiful coral reefs, which are in the waters surrounding this city.
At the village end there are ruins of an iron water wheel. It was used for power generation for sugar cane plantation and the city. This machine was most probably built at the turn of the XVIIIth and XIXth century and was brought to Speyside from Scotland.
If you are ever around this city, it is really worth visiting this place and experience sights from a time long gone. Additionally, the water wheel is located at a charming place with a bay view.
Diving
A company whose offer I picked (link), besides the classical Tobago, also offers a few days trips with accommodation, diving at night, shipwreck sightseeing and snorkeling.
It is worth adding that you do not need any specific diving certifications. After a short (but quite intense) pool training, you will be able to go down to around 18-20 meters depth. During the dive (depending on your skills) the guide will hold your hand, which is why you will not need to feel afraid.
How much is scuba diving in Tobago?
The price starts from 95 USD with a single scuba dive.
It was my first attempt at scuba diving. It is why before a reef swim I had to take a theoretical and practical training at a pool.
I was constantly being watched by the instructor during the dive. The instructor provided a huge mental comfort for a beginner diver.
Is it worth to go scuba diving Trinidad and Tobago?
Unfortunately, I did not have any equipment on me which would allow me to take some underwater photos. It is why I will need to repeat this experience in the future to take some at least π
During the dive, I went down to an 18-20 meters depth. It made possible for me to see lots of coral and various gorgeous fish. I even got a chance to see a stingray!
